We want to update you on some changes within the Glens Falls Hospital network, specifically those changes affecting the Sleep Disorders Center.
Changes in insurance reimbursement patterns over recent years have unfortunately contributed to the erosion of our in-lab sleep study volume. This, combined with the impact of the pandemic on the field of sleep medicine, caused us to limit our services in January of this year to home sleep studies only. The Sleep Disorders Center has been operating with a significantly reduced staff and are now unable to sustain even home sleep studies.
We have made the decision to officially close the Sleep Disorders Center effective October 29, 2021. We are in the process of communicating this change to our patients, community partners and key stakeholders. We will not accept any new orders for home sleep testing as of October 1, 2021. For current requests for patient records, please call the Sleep Disorders Center at 518-926-2330. Any requests for patient records after October 14, 2021 should be directed to Glens Falls Hospital, Health Information Management, (518) 926-5402 or fax (518) 926-5404.
Glens Falls Hospital’s responsibility to you and our entire community is to ensure that you have access to the broadest array of quality healthcare services possible. We have determined that there are other organizations in this region that continue to excel in providing sleep disorder services. We would not be making this decision unless we were fully confident that the care patients receive elsewhere would be as good as the care they receive today.
If you have questions regarding this correspondence, please contact Kerry Sumner, Director of Respiratory Care Services & Sleep Center at (518) 926-2082.
We are grateful for the dedicated service of our staff and medical director, Surendra Nevatia M.D., who has served in his role since 1998.
