Renal Dialysis Center

For renal dialysis patients across the Greater Glens Falls Region, 3 Broad Street Plaza in Glens Falls is the center of their lives.

Many dialysis patients spend four hours per day, three days per week, at our Renal Dialysis Center, which forms the centerpiece of our Broad Street campus. The 13,000-square-foot center is designed specifically for the delivery of dialysis treatments and follow-up care. Included in the facility are a heating system specially engineered for dialysis patients, who often become cold during treatments, and a dedicated education center.

"We have patients who can only receive services in the evening, including some who live more than an hour away," says Nurse Manager Kathy Andersen, RN. "Four hours of treatment, sandwiched between hour-long drives, make for a very long night, so we do all we can to accommodate them."

The number of patients receiving dialysis treatment from Glens Falls Hospital has grown tremendously since the service was first offered in 1980. Seven patients utilized the service at that time, compared to the more than 100 that utilize it now. The total number of treatments provided on an annual basis has grown to more than 20,000.

"We see many of the same patients on a frequent basis, so we are able to get to know and bond with them and their families," says Kathy. "The close and friendly relationships we have developed make for comfortable experiences for both our patients and our staff."

In addition to dialysis treatments, our center offers:

  • insulin administration;
  • blood glucose monitoring;
  • diabetes self-management programs;
  • diabetes and nutrition counseling services;
  • therapeutic plasma exchange;
  • home dialysis;
  • acute dialysis;
  • pre-renal education;
  • anemia management;
  • support groups for patients and families.
