Diabetes & Children

Glens Falls Hospital's pediatric program is an intensive program for children with diabetes and their parents. It provides the information and skills necessary for the family to integrate diabetes self-management into their lifestyle. Independence and confidence are gained as the child and parents assume progressive responsibility for diabetes management with close daily guidance from the staff. This can often shorten the hospital stay when a new diagnosis has been made. We also provide linkage to the school-based staff for continued monitoring.

Children's Campership Program

The Regional Diabetes Center Campership Fund gives children with diabetes the opportunity to attend a specialized camp where they will discover more about their condition and learn they're not all that different from their friends and siblings. Here, not only do campers have diabetes, so do many of the counselors. All camps are based on a positive approach to living with diabetes. Campers are exposed to new methods of diabetes self-management, coping strategies and new technologies.

Children ages 6 to 16 may apply for Campership funds by submitting an essay to be judged by our Center's certified diabetes educators. The Campership program was created by the Glens Falls Hospital Foundation through the generosity of Joe and Janet McDowell of Chestertown.
