Experienced & Compassionate Care

Kenta Kameda

Kenta Kameda, RN, freely admits he's a "computer nerd." So when his nurse manager at Glens Falls Hospital asked him to help evaluate some IT upgrades that were under consideration, he jumped in head first. That assignment soon led to a seat on the GFH Nursing Informatics Council, and then his selection to chair the hospital-wide Council, which is charged with evaluating and implementing new technologies to support clinical care.

"I was a little surprised, but I'm always up for a challenge and I think what we're doing is very important," says Kenta, who now works in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit after spending time in Med/Surg and as a member of the vascular access team.

"We're looking at how we can use electronic medical records and other devices to provide better care, make our work flow and staffing levels more efficient, and communicate better with each other."

Kenta says the evaluation process is very collaborative, with nurses invited to offer input on which technology will work best out on the floor.

"More and more decisions here are being made by people directly involved in patient care," he says. "It's great to have this opportunity to help plan the way you work and care for patients. Everyone's really excited."
